SpyBot Search and Destroy and Rookit Revealer Review

I started using SpyBot Search and Destroy several years ago. I found the detection to be great and it was recommended on several antivirus review websites. However, I was concerned about the software because it was run by a one man operation. I originally thought that the software publisher couldn't compete with the likes of PC tools or Symantec antivirus. These larger companies have teams of dedicated individuals constantly working on discovery of new viruses and other malware. However, I have been proved wrong. In fact, the latest update to Spybot Search and Destroy was on January 29. Now, the antispyware software appears to have some of the latest spyware definitions installed.
Features: I really like all the features that are included with Spybot Search and Destroy. When a scan is completed, the results page is very specific on the location and the type of virus or spyware that is detected. The cleaning is also excellent. According to PC magazine, the software was awarded 4 out of 5 stars by the readers. In addition to the main virus and scanning engine, Spy Bot also includes a program called Tea Timer. This program will alert your whenever an important setting ( like a new startup is added to your computer.) Tea Timer will help you prevent viruses and other malicious programs from sneaking underneath your main antivirus protection. I also like the feature that would allow Spybot to boot even before Windows Xp starts. The boot protection can clean viruses and spyware before they can start a protected process. This type of antispyware protection is a sure fire way to prevent a malicious program from launching. I encourage you to download Spybot today and perhaps make a small donation.

Rookits are a fairly new phenomenon to the pc security world. A rootkit is a program that runs deep inside your Windows Operating System. Since these virus programs are so well integrated into Windows, they are very difficult to detect by normal antivirus programs. The whole calamity started when Sony decided to include rootkits onto their Music CD's. The purpose of the rootkit was to prevent users from copying Cds onto their hard drive or burning new Cd's. However, programmers soon found out about this malicious program and it started a new era in computing security. Read more about the Sony Rootkit here on Wikipedia. After this rootkit disaster, virus writers eventually figured out that they could also use rootkits to their devious ends. Increasingly, rootkits are being used to make viruses undetectable by normal antivirus programs. However, there is a solution. Rootkit Revealer by SysInterals and Microsoft will scan your system for possible rootkits that your regular antivirus program might have missed. The program gives a significant amount of detail on each virus and may be confusing to many users. However, what I have done to mitigate this problem is Google search the offending scan result. Almost 100% of the time I have been able to determine if the program is a valid or invalid positive. I encourage you to download Rootkit Revealer today and start finding additional viruses.
