Panda Cloud Technology and Conficker is Back!

Panda Cloud Antivirus is a new type of antivirus that utilizes detection over the internet. The programs philosophy is to use as little local computer resources as possible. This is appreciated and probably the first time an antivirus company has taken notice of limiting computing resources of their programs. Traditional anti virus programs scan your computer with definition files loaded on the computer (taking up more memory in the process.) This approach limits the ability of antivirus programs to detect viruses only that the local computer has definitions for. With cloud antivirus, the antivirus program sends the infected file to Panda's Internet Servers for its own virus check. This method will leverage all of the computing power at Panda Corp in addition to other users virus records to provided unparalleled Trojan and virus detection. Having the majority of the antivirus hosted abroad is also advantage to your computer's speed. The program uses very little memory during scanning and with auto protect on. In fact, Panda Antivirus manages to use only 30 megabytes during an on demand scan and 15 when the program is idle. The program also manages to do an entire system scan in about 30 minutes.

Last week I mention Conficker being mostly subdued. However, the worm has returned and is now installing Spyware Protect 2009. This type of scareware is very similar to XP antivirus 2008 in that it imbeds itself into every part of your system. Windows explorer or My Computer will start looking like a scan is being performed. Viruses and Trojans will even be detected, but everything that the software detects is completely bogus. The spyware will then ask for your credit card number. After entering your credit card number the software might be removed. However, I have heard cases of people getting additional viruses and messages even after the software was "purchased." If you see any messages or suspicious activity please install antivirus software to delete Conficker immediately.
