Windows OneCare Antivirus Scan and Future Updates
Windows OneCare has been out for a couple of years. The antivirus software is an extension of the Windows Defender line that was Microsoft's first foray into the pc security market. A significant amount of pundits have criticized Microsoft's antivirus solution because they believe that it is a confession by Microsoft that their Windows OS is inherently insecure. Opponents have also stated that OneCare is unfair competition against mainstream antivirus company's products. Microsoft has adamantly denied these claims. Your interpretation of these analysis are as good as mine. However, I have used OneCare's online scanner. While I can't recommend it as a main antivirus, I can recommend that you use it as a side antivirus. What I mean is first consider installing another antivirus download on this website. If you become infected with a virus or trojan, allow your main antivirus to first heal the infection then, use Windows OneCare to do an additional scan just to make sure that you are completely virus free. Another thing to keep in mind about OneCare is that the underlying technology is actually from a company called Sybari who has had a successful product for many years. Another recent development in December is that Microsoft has plans to offer free antivirus protection. So, stay tuned for more developments.
I actually found out about Hitman Pro from a family friend. I was fixing their computer when I noticed that the software had been installed. I asked them about it and they told me a dormitory computer tech had installed the Hitman Pro antivirus. After closer inspection of the software, I found out that with one scan you can scan with 10 antivirus and antispyware company's software. The software that Hitman utilizes are Lavasoft AdAware, Ewido Micro Scanner, and Spybot Search and Destroy etc. Hitman will not only scan affected windows files but will also check for updates in each of the preceding scanners and automatically download the latest versions. Unfortunately Hitman Pro has come under some scrutiny because antivirus and antispyware company's arent exactly happy that they are being distributed under the Hitman name. However, there has been some progress in negotiating new terms of service. Consider giving Hitman Pro a try.
